2021 Schedule Reaction

More Road Courses

At the expense of a few oval races, NASCAR gave fans more Road Courses, which was one of its biggest requests. One of them was the Indy Oval. Personlly I would have preferred the race to stay on the storied oval but this change was coming in time with the lack of attendance and not a great racing product. It will be interesting to see if the event draws a crowd. The course has put on good shows for NASCAR in the Xfinity Series as well as for IndyCar so hopefully, it can do the same for Cup. I have been especially excited for COTA since Tony Stewart tested the F1 track last year with the HAAS F1 team. He had only good things to say and felt it would put on a good show.

No more Brickyard 400

With giving the fans more Road Courses it was at the expense of the Indianapolis Oval. I would have preferred the race stay on the storied oval but this change was coming in time. With the lack of attendance and not a great racing product. It will be interesting to see how the event draws a crowd.

Bristol Dirt Race

This is the biggest swing for the fences in the new 2021 schedule. This could be a huge success or a huge embarrassment. The drivers in the Cup series are the best in the world on asphalt not on dirt. The event will draw crowds for the first one, but it will be interesting to see how it goes in the future. I will be excited to see what happens for this first attempt!

No more Chicagoland and Kentucky

Getting new tracks on the schedule is at the expense of two tracks Chicago lost its race in 2020 due to the pandemic. This track has been one of the best with the new 550-hp package. It's a shame that the fans in the area also did not get one more race to send the track off. They are not demolishing the track yet but if NASCAR does not use it in the 2022 schedule it may be gone forever. For Kentucky, the racing has not been great with the cars and has not had great races. The endings have been exciting some of the most in recent memory with Kurt Busch beating Kyle Busch and rookie Cole Custer getting his first career win this season. Hopefully, these tracks are not gone for good since building a big track is something that may never come back again.
